The club was formed around 1992 to further the interests of jazz & blues music in Auckland.

The club has a membership of around 250 and has regular club nights every Tuesday evening at the Birkenhead RSA.

Concerts start at 7.30pm and finish at 9.30pm with a break at half time. Meals are available before the concert. Full bar service.

Ample off-street parking. Come early to secure your seating.

Each night features a different local or out of town band.. Sometimes an International star makes an appearance.

This is the big day

Finals of the 2017 School Jazz Band Competition see the top combos and big bands fight it out for the grand award

What an awesome and inspiring four days we had for the 2017 Auckland School Jazz Band Competition Heats! 
 
The adjudicators were very impressed with the standard of all the bands and for the Big Bands the judges had a three way tie for the third and fourth finals spots. The committee has discussed this and decided the fairest way to address the tie is to feature five bands for the Big Band section of the final. 
 
Finalists are (in alphabetical order):
 
Combos: Lynfield College Jazz Combo; Massey High School Combo; North Sea Combo (Rangitoto College); St Kentigerns College Combo
 
Big Bands: Auckland Grammar Big Band; Lynfield College Big Band; Rangitoto College Big Band; St Kentigern Big Band; St Peters Jazz Band
 
 
The final will run from 1pm till 5pm. Combos will perform 1pm-2:20pm, there will be a short interval and then Big Bands will perform 2:40-4:20pm. Following the Big Band performances the judge will deliberate and then we will have an awards presentation.  We have invited each band to select and perform their best 3 songs with total on stage time no longer than 20 minutes. 
So Program should look like this:
 

Combos: 
1pm: Lynfield College Jazz Combo; 
1:20pm: Massey High School Combo; 
1:40pm: North Sea Combo (Rangitoto College); 
2pm: St Kentigerns College Combo

Big Bands:
2:40pm: Auckland Grammar Big Band; 
3pm: Lynfield College Big Band; 
3:20pm: Rangitoto College Big Band; 
3:40pm: St Kentigern Big Band; 
4pm: St Peters Jazz Band

Special thanks to Roger Fox, who will be adjudicating for the top awards from  performances at the final.

The Jasmine Restaurant will be open with $10 special Jazz Day meals
