This is the 20th year of operation for Voxnova, a band that has hosted musicians from all over the globe. Each has left a trace on the repertoire and style. The current line-up has been in place for 2 years, “the best yet,” according to founder/percussionist Alan MacDonald, who is joined by James Sneyd (violin), Alberto Santarelli (double bass), Doug Robertson (guitar). Our Monday residency at the very chic Caretaker Bar, into our second year, has allowed us to become really tight and creative enough to keep the regulars enthralled for all that time. There is a balance between Manouche swing and rumba, “an echo of our Latin traces” says Alan. “The level of communicating between the soloists is incredible and reminds me of the Flamenco notion of duende, an instance where the musicians transcend their individuality, play as one and the audience senses it. In metaphysical terms this is called non-locality, a period of respite from the mundane.”
